The Arkansas Mississippi Delta

I was down in the southern part of Arkansas's Delta this day. The crop they were racing in these pictures is cotton. In the pictures of the irrigation you can see the humidity in the air. It was one of those days you melt away by just breathing. The pictures below are of the cotton plants themselves very healthy in the Delta soil.

On the other side of the dirt road from the cotton fields is a backwater slue. This slue is on the upland side of the dike with the mighty Mississippi on the other

Cypress trees are amazing. They can grow on land or in water. Cypress wood resist rotting. It is used around docks and peers used for shingles and many other unique uses. The wood is so valued that gardeners use the sawdust as ground cover that resist rotting.

There are entire forests growing in water so different than anything I'm used to. With a canoe you can paddle through these wet forest and find wildlife of many varieties. Plants, fish, birds, mammals, and reptiles there's no telling what you will find. As you paddle a long you might come out in an opening in this forest. You will see open water that stretches out to more trees on the other side. Well no surprise this is called a meadow
